I’m going abroad for a while and then I’ll see what happens

I really enjoy sharing my travel experiences with you and I will definitely keep on doing that, but I will also go a bit more personal and write about my living abroad experiences. Because even though the sun, the beach and the tapas might sound amazing, living abroad is definitely not always easy and it has its ups and downs as many other decisions in life.

In my opinion, studying abroad (as opposed to simple tourism) is so unique in that you get to live as a local and thus, appreciate another culture on a whole different level. You are quite literally integrated as a productive member of their society.

Yesterday, I met a friend in Mumbai, who I had met when I was living in Washington, DC. I had met her at one of the professional networking events, we hung out briefly and then remained Facebook friends. For past few years, she has been living in Middle-East and Asia. So when she made a short visit to Mumbai with her family, she sought me out. I was delighted to meet her.

I moved to Mumbai a few years ago, after living in DC area for about 8 years. It has been challenging to adjust back in my own country. Even before I went to DC, I had lived in different Indian cities. If I look back, I realise I have always been constantly on the move in my life.
